Adam is a freelance drummer with over 20 years’ experience recording, performing live and touring with many different bands. He has taught privately for the past couple of years and now has a professional studio at his home in Watford.

Originally from South Africa, he's lived in the UK for 12 years. Adam plays drums to a Grade 8+ standard. He also carries a Jazz Performance BA from Durban (under Darius Brubeck) and an Advanced Certificate in Sound Engineering.

Experience, Genres & Approach

Adam has played drums extensively in rock, pop, metal and funk styles - from quiet covers to heavy progressive arrangements - and has good knowledge of jazz and world styles too.

He's all about music, helping you build a proper foundation to play well and play with other people - Adam is also a songwriter, singer and guitar player, so has a very rounded musical approach.

Drum Lessons

Adam's main aim is to inspire people on any part of their drumming journey, so at your first lesson he'll figure out where you want to go by asking about your goals, your musical journey and education so far, plus your overall experience level. If you're just starting out, he'll definitely ask about why you want to play, why you like the drums.

Then he'll help you get your approach together, building a development plan to help you get to your goals - whether that's getting rid of bad habits, perfecting a linear lick or co-ordinating your hands and feet for the first time.

His specialities include:
- How to play better with a band or ensemble
- How to prepare for an audition
- How to construct parts to serve the music you're playing
- An exciting, informed approach that combines:
theory and grades, hand and foot technique, listening development and practical application - depending on your goals.

For less ‘serious’ students Adam creates fun sessions with lots of listening and experimenting to expand the student's frame of reference.

Adam strongly believes in drumkit health, so will assess your technique, posture and ergonomics continuously – even for casual players, this is important for your playing and overall health.
