About Alex T

Alex graduated in classical music in 2007 and has since been lucky to have had many opportunities for performing as well as teaching. Alex is a very versatile violinist, skilled in genres as diverse as Folk, Rock, Gypsy, Jazz and more recently, Afro/ Caribbean music. Alex has been taught by many excellent teachers throughout his musical journey and has absorbed the crucial skill of being able to quickly identify issues in a lesson and suggest solutions according to the individual needs of the student. Alex is a skilled communicator. Explaining ideas and concepts clearly and directly. He understands his students have jobs and lives and it's necessary to be flexible around booking lessons and expectations of practice commitments etc.

Teaching in Violin

Alex teaches violin from beginners to advanced from aged six upwards. His teaching style is centred around the needs of the individual. Many enjoy Alex’s teaching style of jazz and improvisation as he can help people play intuitively rather than the more common approach of learning only the modes and chord types etc. Alex finds that if you develop your 'inner ear' and work on your ability to reproduce what you can imagine then theory is a support rather than an end in itself. Before this can be achieved it is necessary to master the basics of the instrument, regardless of style. This means;

- Posture
- Correctly holding both violin and bow,
- Intonation and tone,
- Rhythm
- Finger Independence.
- This can also include sight reading and knowledge of scales etc.

Genre
Alex Teaches primarily in the genres of Classical, Folk, Gypsy and Jazz violin. Skilled in improvisation and the teaching of improvisation, he is also very happy to take students wishing to learn classical and folk music.
