About Beth S

Beth is a dedicated multi-instrumentalist, specialising in Jazz and Classical Saxophone, Popular Vocals, Keys and Music Theory/Analysis. Beth is a highly qualified musician, having achieved a First Class B(Mus) Music and Popular Music Degree with Honours, Grade Eight Saxophone and a Diploma of Popular Music alongside Grade Five Piano. In addition to this, Beth is an actively working musician in performance, session work, studio work, workshopping, tutoring, leadership, composition, arranging and transcribing. With the hope to train further to become a Music Therapist, Beth values music very highly and is enthusiastic to help people gain a passion for the subject she loves.

Teaching in Saxophone

Beth teaches saxophone for beginners and intermediate of all ages. Beth specialises in all four saxophones and is comfortable teaching Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone. Saxophone Lessons with Beth will include:
- Fingering/Rhythm Exercises and Scales
- Learning and Working Towards Pieces
- Extended Techniques
-Saxophone Care
-Note Reading

Teaching in Vocals

Beth teaches Vocals for beginners and intermediate under the age of 18, vocal lessons include:
- Accompaniment
- Note reading
- Rhythm exercises
- Musical expression and Pronunciation
-Scales

Teaching in Music Theory and Musical Analysis

Beth is very enthusiastic about music theory, and specialises in popular music analysis, particularly looking at:
-Prosody
-Thematic Representation
-Different Styles of Music and their Characteristics
In addition to this, Beth is able to teach music theory up to the standard of grade five.

Genre

Beth is able to teach the following:
-Jazz / Classical Saxophone and Improvisation (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone)
-Popular Music Vocals.
Other genres may be discussed during/prior to lessons.

First lesson

Beth will always begin lessons looking at the student's personal goals and wishes for their sessions. Beth is dedicated in allowing students to feel well accomplished, and is happy to take lessons at a suitable pace for each pupil, allowing students to get into the flow of practical playing with a knowledge of the theory behind the music as well as a performance ability.
