About Brad G.
Bradley has many years experience teaching both peripatetically and privately. His experience teaching saxophone has been in a number of different settings including primary, secondary and private schools, regional music services, Saturday morning music centres, privately, school assembly demonstrations, GCSE and ‘A’ level composition workshops, junior Music College teaching and giving masterclasses at some of the countries’ leading conservatoires such as Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Trinity College of Music. He believes his experiences, especially in the performing world, will enable him to pass on a great deal of knowledge and inspiration. He's a great thinker in terms of concept and technique and has a solid, methodical approach that will get the best out of anyone at any standard.
The first lesson will include a general chat about what the tutee wants to achieve, whether it be playing for grades, school entrance auditions or fun. Lessons are well structured and differentiated for all levels, including beginners. Prior to any first lesson for complete beginners, I am happy to discuss what instrument to get and equipment you may need and the different purchase options available. General support on how to organise practice as well as setting challenges and goals by way of performance opportunities for example, will be provided. I teach from beginner up to beyond grade 8 and diploma level.
As well as teaching any of the saxes in the saxophone family (soprano, alto, tenor or baritone) in a range of different styles, Brad also teaches clarinet (including bass) and flute. As an experienced "trebler" in London's West End theatres, Brad is well positioned to teach any of these instruments and advise on playing any combination of them. He usually enters students for ABRSM exams but if you have a preference for any other exam board he is only too happy to accommodate.
Brad's performing career has taken him all over Europe and across the world. Most of his performing time is occupied in theatre in London’s West End trebling on all saxes, clarinets and flutes. After starting out on several UK and European touring productions he has since been the chair holder on many West End shows such as Stepping Out, Sweet Charity, Kiss Me Kate, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Billy Elliot The Musical. He currently plays alto sax, clarinet, flute and piccolo on The Book of Mormon.
He regularly plays with a variety of orchestras and ensembles including the Philharmonia, London Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, BBC Concert Orchestra, Icebreaker, London Saxophonic, the Michael Nyman Band and the Graham Fitkin Band. He has been recorded on many film sessions and performed and recorded with pop artists such as Birdy and Katie Melua.
