About David D

David is a friendly and experienced woodwind tutor and graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama where he gained a Masters Degree in Clarinet Performance. He is active as a performer playing clarinet and bass clarinet for Brunel Sinfonia, Bristol Classical Players, Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra and New Bristol Sinfonia.

He has several years’ experience teaching clarinet, saxophone and flute and teaches students at all ages and levels. David teaches privately and for Bristol Plays Music as a woodwind tutor. He aims to provide a positive, creative and fun learning environment in which students can achieve their potential, reach their personal goals and make music.

Teaching in clarinet
David teaches clarinet for beginners and advanced for all ages. Clarinet lessons with David include:

- Developing note reading, sight reading and ensemble skills.
- Rhythm Exercises
- Developing tone, finger, breathing and articulation technique
- Musical Expression and performance technique by exploring clarinet repertoire
- Advice given on purchasing instrument and/ or mouthpiece.
- ABRSM exam preparation for students wishing to take exams

Teaching in flute and saxophone
David teaches Flute and Saxophone for beginners and advanced for all ages. Saxophone and flute lessons with David include:

- Note and rhythm exercises
- Developing sight reading skills
- Musical expression and performance skills
- Developing a good tone, finger, breath control and articulation techniques
- ABRSM exam preparation for students wishing to take exams

Genre
David primarily teaches classical but can also cater for different styles and interests.

First lesson
David always takes a starting point in the student's own wishes and needs. It is important that the students feel heard and well adapted with the choice of both repertoires and teaching methods.

Beginners
In a beginner lesson we will look at assembling and disassembling the instrument correctly. Placing the reed correctly on the mouthpiece for clarinet and saxophone players. Achieving a good posture and forming the correct embouchure shape so we can produce our first note.
Advice will be given on tuition material to be purchased for lessons.
