About Edouard. A. W

I am a professional violinist and teacher based in London, and Leader of the Amati Orchestra, with whom I was soloist in the Bruch Violin Concerto No 1 in July 2016, and the Beethoven Violin Concerto in March 2015. Having started my musical journey as a chorister with the Metropolitan Cathedral Choir, I was inspired to play the violin at age 6 after hearing the Merseyside Youth Orchestra in Holst ‘The Planets’.

In 1989 I entered Trinity College of Music London as an undergraduate, completing my studies seven years later with both graduate and postgraduate diplomas in violin performance under the tutelage of Hu Kun.

I was awarded two scholarships to study chamber music with the world-renowned Brodsky and Smith Quartets, and have toured Great Britain, Jersey and Northern France as the first violin of the Marcucci String Quartet. I have also tutored and performed as a chamber music coach at the Dartington International Summer School and the Bath Guitar Festival.
I have played with professional and amateur orchestras including the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, on tour with Sir Yehudi Menuhin, with the British Youth Opera Orchestra, Concilium, and on tour with Opera of the South.

Within my teaching experience I have combined many ways to help students achieve the potential they show by combining and adapting teaching skills and styles. Each student will receive a thoughtful and personal method suitable to their level and progression with tailored exercises and studies.
Throughout the work with Thames I have been working and directing large and small groups developing their ensemble skills and preparing them for performances. I have worked with the LSO Discovery scheme and Spitalfields Music festival arranging the music, organising the program, rehearsing and directing the Thames SMC Senior String ensemble in their public concerts. I have a wide experience at entering children for exams (ABRSM) with good results from beginner entry to grade VIII.

I have a strong dedication to pass on the knowledge and experience I have been fortunate to have received and been taught.
I believe all should have some form of musical education, not just to become professional musicians but to share with others the happiness and joy music brings to each other in the artistic and communal endeavour.
