About Ed B

Ed is an experienced music tutor with both an undergraduate music degree from Huddersfield and a postgraduate composition MA from Bristol. He has studied with nationally and internationally renowned instrumentalists and has a wealth of experience in teaching saxophone, clarinet and music theory to students at all levels and ages. Music is such a creative and therapeutic skill to have: Ed believes everyone should have the chance to develop it in a fun and supportive environment, where 'mistake' is a positive word and provides motivation, rather than frustration, to improve one's playing.

Teaching in saxophone and clarinet
Ed teaches saxophone and clarinet from beginners to advanced students of all ages.

These lessons with Ed include:
- Basic woodwind techniques
- Musical expression and performance
- Music reading and sight-playing
- If desired, preparation for graded examinations
- genre studies, including jazz and improvisation

Teaching in music theory
Ed teaches music theory from beginners to advanced students of all ages.

Theory lessons include:
- Basic understanding of reading music
- Case studies in genres and practice questions
- Theory evolution through history
- Musical expression and relation to performance
- Guidance for practice
- If desired, preparation for graded examinations

Genre
Ed teaches (almost) all genres, and specialises in classical, jazz and contemporary music.

First lesson
Before the first lesson, Ed will make sure he understands the student’s needs and will provide a rough outline of how the lesson will proceed. The lesson will begin with a brief chat and will then run at a pace that works for the student. Ed always takes a starting point in the student's own wishes and needs; it’s very important that his students feel comfortable and at ease in order for the best learning to happen! Ed is a skilled tutor and is able to tailor repertoire and teaching style to best fit the individual.

Beginners
Beginners of all ages are most welcome to learn with Ed. Ed believes that anyone can learn music and has seen the benefits it has on the students' confidence and potential as well as their creativity and involvement in the community.

Please feel free to write Ed a message if you are interested in signing up for lessons or have any questions.
