About Emily K
Emily is an experienced singing teacher and professional opera singer. She has been teaching privately for several years, and enjoys teaching pupils of all ages and abilities. She trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she received her Bachelor of Music (with Honours), Masters of Music, and an Advanced Certificate in Opera. She also trained on the OperaWorks programme at the English National Opera. In her professional performing life, she has sung with companies such as Garsington Opera, English Touring Opera, Grange Park Opera and Opera pa Skaret in Sweden!
Emily loves working alongside her pupils to discover their musical strengths and interests, and will tailor lessons to suit the needs of each individual. She loves to challenge talented singing students to achieve their full potential, and to encourage less confident singers to come out of their shells.
She enjoys exploring many different genres of music, and has a passion for creating communicative and moving performances!
Teaching in Singing
Emily teaches singing to all ages and abilities (starting from age 7). She can prepare pupils for graded examinations with Trinity College of Music or the ABRSM. She is keen to build a strong and healthy singing technique in all of her students, teaching breath control and support, intonation and healthy voice production. She also teaches music reading skills and basic theory to those students who do not yet have an understanding of these elements. More advanced singers may prefer to bring their own pre-learnt repertoire to lessons, but Emily mostly chooses and teaches songs to her students from scratch.
Lesson content and structure can vary greatly from student to student, but all lessons will start with a warm up which establishes important technical elements, followed by work on one or more songs, with a focus on improving musical accuracy and integrating a good singing technique.
