About Hannah Y.
Hannah studied music in Glasgow, where she specialised in Jazz and has played in a number of jazz ensembles and swing bands, but has also performed in bands of different genres, from pop and indie to dance and club and has been lucky enough to perform at venues such as King Tut's and The Arches. She then completed a PGCE in Secondary Education in Manchester and went on to work as a high school teacher alongside her performing and private tuition.
Hannah now has over 10 years experience as a performer and teacher and aims to bring her own passion and enthusiasm to lessons. She places a lot of value on the fact that her students enjoy themselves in lessons and during their own practice. Because of this, Hannah tailors her lessons to suit the individual's needs and is happy to work towards exams or any other personal goals, ensuring that the student is progressing and loving what they do.
Hannah teaches ABRSM and Trinity board exams (both standard and jazz) but is happy to work with another board if the student has a preference. She teaches right through from beginner level to grade 8 and beyond, including working on gigs and performances students may have to prepare for.
First Lesson & Beginners
Hannah uses the first lesson to find out what students would like to work towards but this lesson will also have a heavy practical side so she can find out what the student already knows and what their ability is, as a starting point. It is not necessary for the pupil to have any books or music, Hannah has a range of resources in different styles and for various abilities and will use these in lessons. If students do have anything they have been preparing or playing through then they are more than welcome to bring these too.
