About Heather C.
I am a professional singer and teacher with a degree in Music from The University of Cambridge and a Masters from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I have experience working with a range of ages; I teach in schools, in addition to teaching private students of all ages and abilities. I want to help inspire a love for music, both when performing and academically. I believe having a good musical understanding will hugely assist practical performance, and aid both confidence and musicianship.
My first lesson involves discussing what a pupil wants to achieve, whether for singing or music theory, and then warming up to hear where they are at and their ability, or determining what level they are at with regards to their musical knowledge. For singers, I then move onto repertoire, incorporating technique exercises within specific songs. I choose repertoire that will suit the style each individual wants to sing, whilst helping to develop tone, pitching and musicality/expression. In particular, I specialise in teaching in a classical or musical theatre style. I give each student tailored exercises to practice and I supply them with the music/backing tracks so they continue to develop outside of lessons.
If the student is wanting to learn music theory or prepare for GCSE exams, I will guide them through the required material and sample exercises to make sure they have a full understanding and are well equipped.
