About Jack H

Jack is an experienced music teacher with a classical background as well as a professional career in the modern music industry. He teaches at Bristol Grammar School and has over five years’ experience with private pupils. He has First Class Honours in Music from Bristol University and is also a qualified coach. He specialises in performance psychology and musicianship.

Singing Teaching
Jack teaches male and female singers of all ages from beginner to advanced. He specialises in applying classical singing technique to a more naturalistic approach. He guides the student in experimenting with their own voice rather than simply 'learning to sing'. As the student's technique and understanding develops, it can be used to sing everything from rock to musical theatre. This includes:

- Increasing understanding of breath control and support
- Creatively addressing areas of tension
- Expanding singing range
- Experimenting with different resonance
- Developing a personal style and voice

Performance Coaching
Coaching is ubiquitous in the business world, sports world and many others because it gets results. It is quickly being discovered by musicians who want to get ahead by changing the way they think rather than simply spending more hours in a practice room. Have you ever felt you've let yourself down in a performance even though you'd practiced? Maybe because you've been nervous, unable to connect with the audience or lacking confidence? Coaching is a process of questioning which gives you clarity in what you want and why you want it. As a result you will:

- Significantly reduce performance anxiety
- Feel more connected to the audience
- Become more creative in your instrumental practice
- Explore your own creative voice and inner musician

Genre
Jack teaches all genres.

First Lesson
The first lesson will be relaxed and informal, it's very important to Jack that he has a good relationship with all of his students. You'll do enough singing or playing for Jack to plan what will be the most useful course of action going forward, but mainly you'll have a chat about you past experience and what you want to get out of lessons.
