About Katherine N

Katherine has been studying music her whole life, starting the violin when she was only 6 years old. While continuing to pursue classical music, she sought to broaden her knowledge and played in a variety of ensembles, learning more about folk, jazz and popular music. She went on to complete a BA(Hons) in Popular Music with a focus on songwriting at Leeds College of Music. She believes in creating a friendly, positive teaching environment with an emphasis on creativity and encouragement. She also believes that music is a lifelong journey, and that you are never too old or young to start!

Teaching in violin and viola
Katherine teaches violin and viola for students of all ages and abilities.

Her lessons include learning:
- Proper bow & left hand technique
- Reading sheet music
- Note and rhythm exercises
- Exciting repertoire (even for beginners)
- Preparation for graded examinations if wanted

Teaching in songwriting
Katherine also teaches songwriting for students of all ages and abilities.

Her lessons include learning:
- Techniques for getting started with writing
- Arranging instrumental & vocal parts
- Lyric writing and good use of language
- Sculpting excellent melodies
- Basic recording skills

Genre/Style
Katherine can tailor your lessons to the genres you most enjoy, and encourages you to explore more than one genre in your studies. She specialises in classical violin/viola, and pop songwriting.

First lesson
Katherine will always start the first lesson with a chat about what your hopes and goals are. This will help her to tailor your lessons around you, whether you’re wanting to pursue grades, take your career to the next level or just learn for fun.

Beginners
For beginners, there may be some educational materials that Katherine will recommend purchasing, but she will try to provide as much as possible.
