Laura is a flute and theory teacher based in South East London. She's been playing the flute for over 20 years and has been teaching since 2011.
Laura Teaches...
Flute: Laura's taught flute to children from ages 6 and up, and adults, and while lots of her students choose to sit ABRSM exams, it's not compulsory and she is happy to teach students who want to play for their own enjoyment. Students who choose to sit exams achieve highly, and some of her pupils have won music bursaries to secondary schools. If you are looking for a teacher for your child at any level, or are an adult learner wanting to improve your own playing, please get in touch!
Theory: Tuition is offered up to Grade 8. If you need to take Grade 5 theory but have had no theory lessons before, don't worry! Laura incorporates theory into her flute teaching but has taught plenty of students Grade 5 theory who've had little prior theory tuition.
Genre
Laura is classically trained but has experience playing in many genres, however she doesn't teach jazz/ pop improvisation.
In your first lesson
If you're a beginner, the goal is to get you making a sound! From there, we'll begin learning your first pieces.
If you've already learned for a while, Laura would like to hear about your prior experience, musical tastes and goals for the future. Laura will always start by asking you to play something you feel confident with, even if it's not the most difficult thing you can play, before we move on to newer material.
Students will need their own instrument for lessons and should expect to buy their own music. Laura is happy to provide advice about instrument hire and purchase- having a good quality instrument to learn on really makes a difference!
