About Lewis B
Lewis is a professional drummer and percussionist with several years experience working both as a teacher and a performer, having studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
As a performer he works both in the UK and abroad, and has appeared an venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Centre, Royal Festival Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham and the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. Lewis frequently appears with many symphony orchestras around the UK, and is a member of several smaller groups including the Masque Collective and the Fix Ensemble, a percussion quartet which he formed. Additionally, Lewis is involved in theatre, recently working with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Teaching in Drums
Lewis teaches all ages and abilities, and is experienced in teaching beginners right through to professional working drummers, and everything in between. Lessons are tailored to each individual's needs and preferences, whether that be working through graded exams, working on a specific element of their playing, or learning to play their favourite song! Lewis aims to be flexible as possible in the content of his teaching.
Teaching in Percussion
Lewis also teaches percussion, including timpani, tuned percussion (such as xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, etc.), concert percussion and hand percussion. The content of these lessons will vary depending on the instrument(s) and styles a student wishes to learn, but Lewis always aims to fit to the needs of each individual student.
Genre
Lewis is happy to teach any genre or style, but is particularly experienced in teaching rock and pop, jazz, funk and classical music. Lewis also has considerable experience preparing students for graded exams.
First Lesson
Lewis always begins his first lessons with an opportunity to get to know the pupil, and discuss with them their desired path in learning an instrument. From here, Lewis will offer and discuss the routes available, ultimately leaving the choice to the student.
Beginners
Lewis is more than happy to teach beginners. Lewis always aims to make lessons fun, and to allow the student to play as much as possible. Beginner students will need access to a drum kit and drum sticks, please feel free to get in touch with Lewis if you have any questions regarding this.
