About Lily B.C

Lily studied as a Scholarship student with Naomi Butterworth at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She now has an active playing career, performing across Sweden, Germany, and the UK as a soloist, in chamber groups, and as part of the Kleiman Cooper Duo (violin and cello). Lily has wide teaching experience, having taught for West Sussex Music service as a cello teacher, and chamber and orchestral coach. She also has several private piano and cello pupils covering a range of ages and abilities, as well as coaching her students in music theory and aural studies.

Genre
Lily teaches classical cello and piano, but enjoys discovering what inspires her pupils to play, and therefore will often give her students jazz pieces, songs from musicals, or even Harry Potter themes!

First Lesson
For beginners, the first lesson will centre around sitting comfortable with the cello, learning how to hold the bow, and recognising four open string notes on the page. Lily is currently writing her own cello book, and the first lesson for those starting from the beginning will include working through these pieces. If a student has some previous experience, the first lesson will be a chance for the student to show Lily what they can play, and discovering new pieces. It is much the same for piano lessons.

Beginners
Beginners will need to supply their own instrument and bow (if a cellist), and musical material. Lily will advise as to which books it is necessary to purchase. Please understand that as a student improves, the music required will change, so further purchases will be required along the way.

If you are interested in signing up for lessons, or have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
