About Lucy M

Lucy is a highly experienced singing and violin teacher with a Masters in Advanced Opera Performance from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (Distinction). Lucy balances a varied teaching schedule with a professional singing career, and in her spare time does improvised storytelling for children and plays her violin in a bluegrass band! Lucy believes music lessons can do so much for young and older people, from building confidence right up to sparking an interest that will lead to an open-mindedness for varied musical styles, or even choosing a career in the arts. Always approaching music learning with a keen sense of fun, Lucy’s enthusiasm for all types of music means enjoyable and productive lessons from complete beginners to advanced level performers.

Teaching in Singing
Lucy teaches singing for beginners to advanced students from age 7 upwards.

Singing lessons with Lucy include:
- An emphasis on tuning and sound production
- Attention to the vocal line (where the notes connect to each other - this makes singing a lot easier!)
- Exploring and developing range
- Graded exams are offered, usually through the ABRSM board but alternatives can be offered if needed.
- If you’d like to take exams, these can be fun to work towards, and you’ll cover sight-reading, aural tests alongside different songs to present in the exam.
Lucy teaches classical, opera (for advanced students), musical theatre and pop.

Teaching in Violin
Lucy teaches violin for beginner students up to Grade 5 equivalent students from age 7 upwards.

Violin lessons with Lucy include:
- An emphasis on tuning, sound production and bow work
- Getting comfortable with using positions above 1st (all students start out in 1st position, but as you progress you move your hand up the neck of the violin, meaning you can play higher notes and do interesting effects)
- Graded exams are offered, usually through the ABRSM board but alternatives can be offered if needed.
- If you’d like to take exams, these can be fun to work towards, and you’ll cover sight-reading, scales and aural tests alongside different pieces to present in the exam.
