Vocal and Instrumental Teaching
Maisie can teach voice from beginner to advanced level, working on breathing technique, healthy singing, and a wide range of repertoire.
As a pianist, she specialises in beginner learning, and has extensive experience with private pupils from the ages of five to seventy-five. Maisie can also teach the clarinet from beginner level to advanced level. and violin to beginners only.
Whilst she teaches a wide range of genres, Maisie focuses on learning to read music, a key skill for musicians across performance. She has taught many beginners to read music and believes this fundamental skill allows her students to access the music they love. She uses several key resources which would need to be purchased for beginners or children; details available on request!

Music Theory
During her degree, Maisie worked extensively in music theory and can teach the ABRSM syllabus up to Grade 8. She has also worked with numerous pupils on requirements for GCSE and A Level Music exams, including assisting with Bach chorale technique. Maisie works with ABRSM materials to ensure pupils fully understand material which can at first seem challenging, working at their own pace to grasp concepts before moving on.

First Lesson
In a first lesson on any instrument, Maisie will always work to get to know you! She prioritises open, honest relationships, where her pupils ask questions, tell her when they don't understand things, and crucially feel able to make mistakes and improve through constructive criticism. She will then work to assess the stage that you are at, the kind of music you'd like to learn, and create a programme for the next three or four lessons to work on some key techniques. From this point, Maisie will suggest pieces she thinks her pupils will find engaging, and continue to work on key techniques, focusing on musical literacy to encourage a good grasp of sheet music, before moving into the music they love.
