About Max

PRE LESSON:
Identify the students goals, aspirations and musical taste
Find out a rough skill level (noting relevant activities for lesson 1)
Map a path to the student's goals and set achievable targets

LESSONS:
Each session will have exercises planned, building on previous work to provide structured improvement. However on the day classes are built around my student's mindset, mood and concentration level in order to make the best progress possible.

LESSON 1:
Get to know the student and properly evaluate their skill level by working through a few exercises and then encouraging them to show me what they can already do.
This will give me a good idea of which area to focus on for the session and what exercises will be most effective. I’ll show them proper technique and then put it in context of some music they like that they can practice too.

For example:
Songwriting: Developing a harmonic vocabulary moving to finding your voice.
Music Production: Setting up your DAW moving to recording & manipulating audio.
Guitar: Picking and fretting moving to play a short riff or playing a few chords.
Bass: Fingering and fretting moving to a bassline.

POST LESSON:
My students should leave the lesson with a few key teaching points and some notes on the subject with a choice of exercises to practice before the next session and a clear idea of where they are, what they are working on and why that will help them get to where they want to go.

MY GOALS:
-Help pupils achieve their goals and build their confidence
-Provide a strong foundation for them to build from
-Nurture and encourage their passion and joy in playing and creating music
-Make sure they have a wide view of the music world and prepare them for any path they choose to follow

POST LESSON:
My students should leave the session with a couple of key teaching points, solid notes to work from (with a couple of exercises to choose from) and an overview of what they are working towards.
I like to encourage students to pick up their instrument once a day, if even for a few minu...
