About Meg L.
Meg is a passionate, friendly and understanding Drummer/Percussionist based in Hertfordshire & Essex. She is a working professional session musician with plenty of touring experience, most notably with artist Mura Masa where she performed at prestigious venues such as Alexandra Palace, O2 Brixton (NME Awards), AFAS Live (Amsterdam), Belgium Antique (Belgium), The Late Night Show starring Jimmy Fallon and many more.
Armed with her knowledge from three years of studies at The British & Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM London) and working in and around the music industry from a young age, she is excited to help students of all ages progress on their musical journey. As someone who suffers from Dyslexia & ADD herself, she is very patient and understanding with all types of students and only goes at a pace that each student is comfortable with whilst still striving to allow them to become their best self. She is truly passionate about allowing every student their chance to shine, and have an equal / fair chance with learning, whether it be just for fun, or as a serious career choice regardless of their background, gender, ability or learning styles.
Teaching in Drums & Percussion
Meg teaches Drums & Percussion for all ages & all abilities, from first time beginners to advanced and experienced players.
She can adapt to each and every student and help them achieve their goals whatever they may be.
Lessons can include:
- Ergonomics of the kit/percussion instrument, to help fluidity, expression and longevity of the student.
- Proper and correct technique, to help aid stamina, speed and well-being.
- Coordination to help expression and cohesion.
- Confidence for live performance & mental well-being.
- Working through song repertoires for live-gig scenarios.
- Drum sight-reading & transcription.
- Studio recording/engineering.
Teaching in Music Theory
Meg also teaches Music Theory to all ages from beginner to intermediate.
Music Theory can be daunting for beginners, especially students who have to do it for their exams at School, College or University. Meg has a love and passion for Music Theory, studying it to a high level at University and applying it constantly as a professional session player. She can help students reach their targets by making lessons fun and engaging whilst only moving at a pace that the student is comfortable with.
Meg is versatile to teach a wide plethora of genres including Pop, Rock, Indie, Electronic, Jazz and many more. Meg is happy to accommodate all styles depending on the student’s needs/wants.
First lessons can be nerve-wracking to any student, regardless of age or proficiency. Meg’s first lesson will mainly be a chat to get to know the student (their influences, favourite artists, songs and players), understanding their goals (long term, and short term) and most importantly how they learn. Jumping on the kit is a great way to break the ice and gauge where the student is, however Meg will only do this if the student is comfortable with it!
Meg has lots of experience with younger students and beginners. It is ideal that students have a folder and/or notebook to store/write down information and work-ons for the next lesson, however it isn’t necessary.
Drumsticks are not a must, and Meg can help the student find their “perfect pair” in the first lesson.
A manuscript notebook and pencil is ideal to have handy at the lessons.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Meg if you have any questions or worries about lessons!
