About Oliver D.

Oliver is an experienced and versatile musician who is keen to pass on his love and passion for music. He graduated from Leeds College of Music in 2017 with a 2:1 degree in Popular Music, focusing on electric guitar and song writing, and he is very active as a gigging musician around Leeds and further afield. Oliver plays in several diverse groups (ranging from heavy rock to acoustic duet) and feels that as a working musician he brings valued practical tips to his teaching, showing pupils how to apply technique to real music making. He is a relaxed and friendly chap, with a great sense of humour, so lessons are guaranteed to be fun!

First lesson
The lesson will begin with a chat and simple questions to get to know the student and what they want to gain out of lessons. We will then look at an introduction to the instrument, correct technique and a basic goal to take away to work on. Oliver always makes sure to help inspire and make the student feel comfortable and by having clear set goals to work towards achieving the best possible experience of learning music.

The most important aspect for beginners is to get straight into learning practical music. Students are shown what to practice between each lesson. Correct technique learnt from the start is crucial for future success but, importantly, the lessons are always kept fun and interactive.

We will look at advanced techniques linked to your preferred styles of playing. We might work towards graded exams if these suit you. More advanced theory concepts can be incorporated and we will perform music that challenge and stretch your abilities.

Please feel free to write to me if you have any questions or if you are interested in signing up for lessons. I look forward to hearing from you!

Oliver is teaching guitar to my two children. He is a highly skilled teacher who is patient and able to motivate them. They are always looking forward to their weekily lessons and have made considerable progress. I highly recommend Oliver to anyone who is interested in learning guitar.
Ollie is fab - a patient and an encouraging teacher. In a short period of time my son (who has never played an instrument before) was able to 'rock out' and fall for the guitar completely! He's keen to practise what Ollie gives him, but is also happy to share thing's he'd like to play - Ollie has helped him break these down to enable him to play his favourite songs; which has grown the enjoyment ten fold! Thanks Ollie!

My 13 year old son started guitar lessons with Oliver five months ago. He had never played the guitar before. Oliver was great from the beginning helping us find an inexpensive guitar that has been perfect. My son gets on beautifully with Oliver, he is always looking forward to the lessons and motivated to practice. He has learned an enormous amount of techniques through songs that he really enjoys. I definitely recommend learning with Oliver!

My son is very happy with the lessons with Mr. Oliver, he inspires him. The teacher loves the guitar and transfer his skills to my son with amount of patience. He is a fabulous teacher!

Ollie is very good at teaching guitar. I have picked it up quite quickly because he explains everything very clearly.
