About Pete S

Pete Shaw been performing as a professional musician around Shropshire and Manchester for 7 years and privately teaching students of all ages and abilities for 4 years. He has recently graduated from The University of Manchester with a BA in Music, where he trained in classical, folk and jazz performance as well as composition and music theory. He believes that the best way to learn an instrument is to enjoy the lessons; that’s why his lessons are always engaging and fun! Pete personalises every lesson to each specific student. His passion for music is rooted in community and socialising; that’s why I get the most enjoyment out of communal music making.

Teaching in Piano
Pete teaches Piano from beginners to advanced students ages 5 and up. Every lesson is specifically tailored to the student, making sure it challenges and engages them whilst keeping it enjoyable. Using inspiration from the Suzuki Method, Pete offers a rounded education of music, developing all areas of musical understanding.

Teaching in Accordion
Pete teaches Accordion from beginners to advanced students ages 10 and up. Similar to his piano lessons, his accordion lessons will be specific to the individual. However, his accordion tuition is generally more general and focussed on what the student can already play. Lots of his students have come to him already being able to play the accordion, but who are stuck in the same routine. Pete offers stimulating conversation and advice on how to develop their ideas and try out new performance techniques.

Genre
Pete teaches all genres of Piano but specialises in classical and folk. Pete teaches most genres of Accordion but specialises in Irish, Scottish and Klezmer music.

First Lesson
The first lesson will be all about getting to know what the student wants to get out of the lessons. This will help develop a clear direction to the lessons, meaning the student can progress as confidently as possible.

Beginners
Beginners just need to bring themselves! If they have already picked up a book/started working on something, bring it along, however this is not necessary.
