Hello, my name is Ricardo and I'm a Portuguese professional opera singer and singing teacher based in London.
I trained at the University of Aveiro (2010; BMus & MEdu Vocal Performance and Tuition w/ Distinction) and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (2011; MMus in Performance w/ Merit).
I'm a certified singing teacher and would love to help you!
I teach singing to any age range and in a variety of styles: Classical, Contemporary/Musical Theatre.
Methodology
My singing teaching is based in objective physical information which you can replicate, memorise and follow. My main goal is to help you build a healthy muscle memory for singing which you can then put to the service of Art. I believe a great technical foundation is at the core of Artistic Creation and a Vocal Technique is the toolbox from where you draw what you need in order to express yourself.
Having built my own voice from scratch, I know how to put the puzzle of Singing together and will support you to achieve the same.
I'm an honest supportive teacher and I will make sure we enjoy our time working together.
First lesson
I like to begin my first lesson with a nice chat over a cup of tea to find out what the student’s goals are, where they come from in terms of Singing and also to have an idea of their own perception of what they would like to achieve. I generally ask people to bring along something they already sing so that we’re not launching immediately into exercises. A song allows me to understand the student not only from a technical assessment point of view, but also to have a glimpse at the Artist in front of me. From there I will establish a plan of action with the student and begin working on their instrument.
Beginners
My experience with students varies from established colleagues who seek help, to complete beginners who have never received any sort of instruction. Whatever your level is, I can help and will be glad to.
I’ll also provide you with PDF copies of whatever materials you might need.
