About Sam A

Sam has been a guitar teacher for eight years, and has mentored bands both privately and in schools around Sussex. His passion for music started when he formed his first band with his brother at the age of 8 and he continues to believe that playing music is the perfect way to relax, express yourself and connect with others. Giving others the opportunity to learn guitar and gain this positive outlet will therefore always be an interesting and enjoyable task for him.

Teaching in Guitar and Bass
Sam teaches Guitar and Bass to beginners through to advanced students aged 7 and up. Sam believes the key to teaching an instrument is keeping the student interested and excited. A genuine passion for guitar will always result in a quicker increase in ability, and he wants to help those he teaches that are just starting out, find that initial passion and then build on their own style and technique. He can take a number of different teaching avenues depending on the students goals and musical interests.

Sam is an avid songwriter and has taught individuals and bands how to write their own music, this teaching style can also be integrated into his guitar lessons by encouraging individual creativity when learning chords and scales to keep the lessons unique and exciting. He also has a degree in 'music for film and media' as well as grade 8 electric guitar and can therefore take a more conventional teaching route if preferred.

Genre
Sam can teach in a number of different styles and genres including Blues, Rock, Pop, Funk, Folk Country and Classical.

First lesson
In the first lesson Sam will first have a chat with the new student and work out what avenue they would like to take with guitar and how to build on whatever their current ability may be. Then after tuning the guitars he will kick off with a few fun warm ups depending on what stage that specific student is at with their instrument. This may include an improvised solo using a chosen scale or a written chord progression.

Beginners
If you are a beginner all you need for the first lesson is your guitar or bass. Sam can show you all the necessary things you need to know to get started and get playing. Picking up an instrument for the first time can seem daunting but there are ways of keeping the learning process fun, creative and positive.
