About Samantha Oxborough

Samantha is a recent Royal Birmingham Conservatoire graduate with a Post graduate certificate and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Studies.
She is also a former young artist at the National Opera Studio and performs all over the UK with Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk ensemble.
In July she sang the National Anthem at the opening of the Common Wealth games in Birmingham.

Teaching Vocals
Samantha teaches vocals from beginners to advanced students aged seven and up.
She can work on exam preparation such as Trinity and ABRSM and can also touch upon musical theory. Her main focus when teaching any age is helping students find their true voice.

A typical Lesson consists of 10 to 15 minutes warmup followed by exploration of the true meaning of the song chosen and creating character. Within this she also works on tone, technique, and communication to an audience.

She is extremely passionate about music in education. Samantha believe’s that singing and music unlocks certain attributes in a person that nothing else can. Being a performer herself she is aware of the different worries a performer can have. With that experience she believes she is able to help all students through these issues in a professional and friendly manner.

Genres
Samantha teaches all genres but specialises in classical singing.

First Lesson
A first lesson with Samantha begins with a quick chat where she can find out about the student, what experience they already have, if they have already taken singing lessons and what they want to achieve out of the lessons going forward. To make the student feel comfortable in the lesson, Samantha has three main points which each student must remember at the beginning of every lesson.

These are:
- The lesson is a safe space to try out new ideas and explore
- Do not try and impress me
- Be yourself, always.

After this Samantha will ask the student to sing a song of their choice to familiarise herself with the student voice followed by a further discussion about the fundamental aspect of singing - breathing.

Beginners
For a beginner singer Samantha just asks they prepare a song of their choice to sing to her. There is no pressure on having this without the music in front of them, that is fine.
