About Sarah
I have been teaching piano to children for over 12 years. My approach is creative and fun yet firmly rooted in the classical tradition.
I studied piano and viola at The Royal Academy of Music. I have a successful career as a composer and performer and as a teacher. I believe my composing and performing positively informs and enhances my teaching. I specialise in teaching young children and beginners. I firmly believe that every child has an innate musicality waiting to be encouraged, harnessed and facilitated.
I have run very successful creative music classes and projects for children in groups and one to one as well as have been commissioned to write and and produce a children's opera, 'Princess Pearl' in 2013 in collaboration with Notting Hill Prep School London and the best selling children's author Giles Andreae. I've also worked with several children with special needs, creating tailor-made classes and programmes for them. I love teaching kids, it's a constant reminder of the joy of music - the look on a child's face when they learn to play a simple tune or even make up one of their own is endlessly satisfying and inspiring.
In March 2020 I took my practice online which proved very successful, enjoyable and effective. Several of my students took ABRSM piano exams last term as well as the new ABRSM Performance Grade which is remote. I'm excited by the ease with which my students have adapted and continue to flourish in this new online space. They all concentrate fantastically well and are moving forwards, in some cases even more rapidly.
I am available for face to face and online lessons.
