About Thomas C
Tom is a professional musician and teacher in Manchester. He has a wide range of teaching experience including private one-to-one tuition, class tuition in schools, music courses, workshops and masterclasses. Tom loves teaching and sharing his passion for music with other people. Tom has taught over 50 students, many of whom have achieved grade 8 been accepted into University / Conservatoire music courses. Tom has also taught numerous masterclasses and workshops on a wide range of subjects including musical techniques, composition/arranging and life as a working musician.
Tom has a First Class Honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, he works in a number of bands and projects (including Cosmo Calling, Oystercatcher and Andchuck), he worked as the in-house house bass player at Hayloft Studios for three years and he has gigged, toured and recorded in countless situations.
Teaching in Guitar and Bass
Tom has experience in teaching abilities ranging from absolute beginner to conservatoire music students, with ages ranging from 5 to 63. He believes in making music engaging and fun so that the student has a desire to practice rather than seeing it as a chore. To accomplish this Tom endeavors to find what inspires his students and use that as the basis for their own unique musical voice. The lessons and practice routines that Tom gives are therefore tailored to each individual based on what instills a love for music within them the most.
Genre
Tom is accomplished in almost all genres of music, he specialises in Rock, Jazz and Pop but can confidently teach anything from Hip-hop to Brazilian and beyond.
First lesson
Tom has two main goals in a first lesson: The first is to get to know you, why you're interested in studying, what music you like, and what your goals are. The second is to get making some music that's relevant to the questions above and is therefore music that you both enjoy and are learning something from.
Beginners
All you need to bring is your instrument! If you have any ideas of things that you'd like to work on then that's helpful too, but if not don't worry because I have plenty!
