A First Lessons For Beginner Child:
In the first lesson with a child, I let the child explore and describe the keyboard, aiming for him/her to find out that there are groups of two and three black keys, and then let them find a 'c', then all 'c's. I like to use the Oxford books (but do use other books too) and at this time let them play a simple song that sings about the middle c, RH, LH, but via imitation, so I play first and then the child copies me. Then we have a look at the score and I show them the actual note, Then we play the next song, with 'c's only, but I let the child read the note first and then, depending a lot how well the child could follow the first song, either let him/her play it by themselves or do imitation again. We usually reach songs with either c and d or maybe even c to e. I do rhythm exercises, such as clapping, and aural training, letting them hear the notes they have learned so far and writing, so they draw the notes they have learned. I do this during online lessons as well on a virtual whiteboard (zoom). I hope that gives an idea that my teaching is as engaging and proactive as possible. I am happy to answer any further questions.
