About Howard A
Playing in Jazz and Rock ensembles from an early age, Howard graduated from Leeds College of Music with a BA (Hons) in Classical Composition. He has a real passion for making music and showing others how to express their musicality. Having previously taught in England and Australia, both one-to-one and in the classroom, Howard believes it is important that everyone has the chance to learn an instrument. He strongly feels that learning an instrument should be fun and unique to each student, therefore will adapt and cater for all ages and abilities.

Teaching in Bass/Guitar
Howard teaches bass and guitar to all ages and abilities. Lessons with Howard include:
- Reading music or playing by ear
- All genres of repertoire
- Musical expression
- Preparation for Graded examinations
- Learning notated music as well as tab
- Left Hand positions and technique
- Proper picking/plucking
Teaching in Theory/Composition
Howard teaches theory and composition to all ages and abilities. Lesson with Howard include:
- From beginners to degree level of music theory
- How to write and score music
- Advanced Sibelius Software skills
- Analysis of music (GCSE/A Level)
- Songwriting techniques
- Chord Charts and Symbols
Genre/Style
Howard teaches all styles of playing. Although his primary playing style is rock, Howard also offers Jazz, Classical and Pop bass and guitar, depending on what is required.
First Lesson
Howard will begin the first lesson with a friendly introduction. This is most importantly to form a relationship to take away any pressure or anxiety felt by the student. This is also to find out what you hope to achieve from lessons and to assess what teaching methods work best for you.
Beginners
Beginners of all ages are welcome to learn with Howard. There may be some educational materials that Howard will recommend purchasing but he will provide all information including the best place to buy these for the best price!
