About Joe C-M

Joe graduated from the University of Manchester in 2017 with a 2:1 degree in music, having completed a 30 minute final recital on voice. He achieved ABRSM Grade 8 piano and ABRSM Grade 8 trumpet by the age of 17. In the time since, Joe has enjoyed teaching a students with a whole range of voice types, both male and female, as well as his work teaching whole classes of primary schools students how to play the trumpet.

Teaching
Joe teaches voice, trumpet, piano, and music theory to grade 8 standard. Joe has experience teaching all ages and abilities, and can tailor lessons to a wide variety of genres.

Teaching piano
In a piano lesson you can expect:
- Technical exercises to improve your sound and confidence
- Good value piece-books for gradual progression or as supplementary material to other pieces you want to learn
- A focus on musicality as well as getting the notes

Teaching vocals
In a singing lesson you can expect:
- Warm ups and techniques to improve the sound and flexibility of your voice
- Stretches to counter tension stopping you from producing a rich, full sound
- Breathing exercises so you can play longer phrases
- Pieces you want to sing!

Teaching trumpet
In my trumpet lessons you can expect:
- Warm ups and exercises to improve your sound and range
- Breathing exercises so you can play longer phrases
- A range of pieces for you to play and practice

First lesson
Joe starts his relationship with a student by understanding why they’ve come for lessons and what it is they’re most interested in developing. For example a current singing student takes a school choir so part of the lesson is dedicated to learning new songs appropriate for the choir.

Students should expect to buy musical resources to practice at home with from time to time.
