About Katherine

Katie is an experienced flute teaching specialising in both classical and contemporary music. She is in the first year of her 2 year Masters in Performance at Goldsmiths University, after completing her bachelor of music degree in July 2021. She performs regularly in venues such as Union Chapel, London, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Bishopsgate Institute and also the Royal Albert Hall. She has also been principal of two orchestras and currently runs two ensembles within Goldsmiths University.

Flute Lessons
Katie teaches from beginner to advanced from age 5 upwards, basing her teaching around what her students want to learn. Katie is aware that some people don’t want to do exams of either Trinity or ABRSM and works around that to give the student a more personal experience based on what they are wanting to gain from the sessions.

We will focus on:
- Technique
- Tuning
- Playing pieces that are enjoyable to the student
- Note learning

First Lesson
In the first lesson, we will look at what the student wants to gain from the sessions, what music they like/would like to play, and we will see how far you are with the instrument. We will then do some warm ups and some simple exercises to see where we need to go from there!

Beginners
If you are a beginner, we can talk about what the best place to start is and what you want to play, and I will advise you on books etc to bring to sessions from then. Bring your instrument and yourself, I know how daunting it can be to learn a new instrument, so let me know if there is anything I can do to put your mind at ease!
