About Kieran L
Kieran is a recent graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music where he received an upper second class degree with honours in French Horn Performance. Kieran is now a freelance musician around Manchester and beyond, having played with orchestras such as the Halle and the English National Ballet. He also has experience in teaching a wide range of Brass instruments including his specialty in the horn. He believes than anyone can learn brass at any age and level.
Teaching Horn
Kieran teaches Horn for beginners and advanced of all ages.
Lessons with Kieran will include:
- Basic buzzing technique, making that first sound on your mouthpiece and the instrument.
- Basic musical technique, rhythm, note reading etc.
- Good posture, breathing exercises to be as efficient and comfortable as possible while playing
- Musical expression and sound: how to get the horn sounding beautiful
- Working toward and partaking in ABRSM grade exams (after discussion on progress)
- Ensemble playing, how to play with others
- Advanced playing technique and musicality
Teaching in other Brass (Trumpet, Tenor Horn, Baritone Horn, Tuba)
Kieran teaches Brass from Beginner to intermediate level.
Lessons include:
- Basic Brass technique, getting the first sound on mouthpiece and instrument
- Basic musical technique, rhythm, note reading etc.
- How to get a great sound
- Working toward and partaking in ABRSM grade exams (after discussion on progress)
- Ensemble playing, how to play with others

Kieran focuses on the classical aspect of Brass playing
First lesson
Kieran will tailor the first lesson to the desires of the student. Whether they would like to just play for fun, or more seriously. Discussion will be a key part and will be continuous throughout the lessons. Every player is different and there is no definitive correct way to play, its whatever method works for the student, so that will be emphasised form the start and throughout.
Beginners
