About Lisa J C

Lisa has over thirty years’ experience as a performer and twelve years as a teacher. She holds a PG Artist Diploma (Distinction) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, as well as a Masters in Vocal Performance from the University of York and a BMus (Hons) degreed from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. She teaches students of all ages and backgrounds with a focus on healthy singing, performance, creativity and above all confidence and enjoyment.

Teaching in vocals
Lisa teaches vocals from beginners to advanced students of all ages. Lessons are tailored specifically to a student’s needs but can include:

- Basic to advanced singing techniques
- Musical expression and performance
- Optional music reading and sight-singing
- Career development advice
- A broad range of repertoire
- Piano skills can be incorporated for self-accompaniment or practice purposes.
- An introduction to songwriting
- Optional preparation for exams, performances, auditions, festivals and competitions

Teaching in piano
Lisa teaches piano from beginners to advanced students of all ages. Lessons are tailored specifically to a student’s needs:

- Accompaniment
- Technique
- Repertoire
- Musical expression and performance
- Guidance for practice
- Notation, sight-reading and theory
- Reading chords, and improvisation
- Optional preparation for exams, performances, auditions, festivals and competitions

Genre
Lisa is a trained classical musician but is equally comfortable with pop and has a background in jazz, folk and music theatre.

First lesson
The first lesson is an opportunity for teacher and student to get to know each other and is not an audition! It is vitally important to have a good rapport with your teacher and enjoy your lessons (otherwise what is the point?!) There is no commitment with the first lesson, and you are fully encouraged to go away and have a think or a chat after the consultation lesson before committing to lessons. It will also give Lisa an opportunity to learn what the needs and aims of the student are.
