Teaching in Singing
Megan teaches contemporary vocals to beginners and intermediate students aged 10 and over.
Lessons will be an exploration for the student, led by their own interests and personal goals, with Megan offering advice and guidance on how to achieve your goals.
Lessons will look at:
- Anatomy of the voice
- Vocal health & getting into good habits
- A basic knowledge of different schools of vocal technique, with the understanding that no one thing works for everyone
- Tone exploration & vocal play
- Song interpretation
- Ear training
- Learning to sing & create harmony parts
Megan specialises in contemporary styles of music such as pop, jazz, soul and country. Although not her speciality, Megan can also teach singing for musical theatre.
Megan understands that coming to your first singing lesson can be scary! As a way to combat nerves, your first lesson with Megan will act more as a consultation - Megan wants any prospective student to feel comfortable and confident with her. Students will be asked about their previous musical experience, why they want to have lessons and their interests - which singers in particular inspire the student and what kind of singer they want to be. They will then go through a quick physical and vocal warm up, sing a song of the students choice and have a bit of an evaluative chat, and then end with a vocal cool down.
New students are asked think about what kind of songs they’d like to sing and if they have any goals, so that the lessons can reflect their aspirations. Students will be asked to bring a song to every lesson and to either provide a backing track themselves or ensure that one can be accessed in the lesson. Students are encouraged to bring a notebook with them, as well as a recording device.
Students are always welcome to have a friend or family member in the room with them during their lesson.
