About Samantha S

Samantha is a music tutor and performer who does it all - musicals, opera, art song, theatre, academia - and loves it! She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance from the University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music, a Master’s degree in music from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, and a Bachelor’s degree in music from the Purchase College Conservatory of Music.

Samantha recently moved to the UK from New York and is an Associate Tutor at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk. She currently performs with Opera Viva in Crosby and the Grand Dame Theatre Company in Manchester. Samantha’s teaching philosophy is simple – singing should be both efficient and relaxing. She combines proper physical and postural alignment, breath support, phonation, and artistry to help students sing confidently and at their best. She is happy to help students find repertoire and prepare for auditions, and she holds annual recitals for her students.

Teaching in vocals
Samantha teaches vocals from beginners to advanced students of all ages.

Genres
Though she was trained classically, Samantha studied Contemporary Commercial Technique during her PhD and is comfortable teaching pop, rock, jazz, and belting styles as well.

First lesson
Samantha encourages new students to bring a pencil, notebook or binder, and any music they are currently learning to the first lesson. In advance of the first lesson, Samantha will make sure she understands the student’s needs and will provide a rough outline of how the lesson will proceed, along with a syllabus of her lesson policies. The lesson will begin with a brief chat and will then run at a pace that works for the student.
